Dietary niacin benefit in early onset Parkinson’s
A study from the University of Leicester, published in Biology Open and reported in Neuroscience News, suggests that available NAD – created in the body from niacin (vitamin B3), found in meat, nuts, seeds and pulses – is critical for keeping mitochondria in shape and familial Parkinson’s disease at bay.
Smad4 regulates growth plate matrix production and chondrocyte polarity
In this month’s cover paper, Whitaker et al. discuss the loss of proteoglycan in the Smad4 conditional knockout mouse. Safranin-O staining (pink) shows normal proteoglycan distribution in the extracellular matrix of a mouse proximal tibial growth plate, with chondrocyte nuclei in blue.
Transfer to Biology Open
If your submission to one of our other journals, Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology or Disease Models & Mechanism, is unsuccessful, did you know you can transfer your paper and any reviews directly to Biology Open? The majority of papers transferred with reviews are accepted for publication. Find out how here.
