Induced pluripotent stem cells

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Collagen vitrigel promotes hepatocytic differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells into functional hepatocyte-like cells
Shun Nakai, Ima Shibata, Takahiro Shitamichi, Hiroyuki Yamaguchi, Nobuyuki Takagi, Tomoaki Inoue, Toshito Nakagawa, Jumpei Kiyokawa, Satoshi Wakabayashi, Tomoya Miyoshi, Eriko Higashi, Seiichi Ishida, Nobuaki Shiraki, Shoen Kume
    Biology Open 2019 8: bio042192 doi: 10.1242/bio.042192 Published 2 July 2019

Summary: We found that collagen vitrigel membrane used as scaffold potentiates differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells to differentiate into mature hepatocyte-like cells that exhibit mature functions of the hepatocytes.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Osteoblast differentiation of equine induced pluripotent stem cells
Arabella Baird, Timothy Lindsay, Alice Everett, Valentine Iyemere, Yasmin Z. Paterson, Alyce McClellan, Frances M. D. Henson, Deborah J. Guest
    Biology Open 2018 7: bio033514 doi: 10.1242/bio.033514 Published 10 May 2018

Summary: Horse iPSCs can be turned directly into bone forming cells but the efficiency is affected by the donor horse. Less variability is observed using different iPSC lines derived from the same horse.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Feeder-free differentiation of cells exhibiting characteristics of corneal endothelium from human induced pluripotent stem cells
Michael D. Wagoner, Laura R. Bohrer, Benjamin T. Aldrich, Mark A. Greiner, Robert F. Mullins, Kristan S. Worthington, Budd A. Tucker, Luke A. Wiley
    Biology Open 2018 7: bio032102 doi: 10.1242/bio.032102 Published 8 May 2018

Summary: This study demonstrates differentiation of adult dermal fibroblast-derived iPSCs into neural crest and corneal endothelial-like cells, which could be a valuable tool for investigating the mechanisms of cornea endothelial disease.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Low extracellular potassium prolongs repolarization and evokes early afterdepolarization in human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes
Jukka Kuusela, Kim Larsson, Disheet Shah, Chandra Prajapati, Katriina Aalto-Setälä
    Biology Open 2017 6: 777-784; doi: 10.1242/bio.024216

Summary: This is the first study showing the effects of low extracellular potassium on the electrophysiological properties of human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived long QT cardiomyocytes at single and multicellular level.
