Microtubules

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Tau interferes with axonal neurite stabilization and cytoskeletal composition independently of its ability to associate with microtubules
Edward F. Boumil, Rishel B. Vohnoutka, Sangmook Lee, Thomas B. Shea
    Biology Open 2020 9: bio052530 doi: 10.1242/bio.052530 Published 25 September 2020

Summary: Tau inhibits axonal transport by blocking kinesin translocation or as kinesin cargo. Tau capable and incapable of microtubule binding inhibited transport equally, indicating inhibition of axonal transport as kinesin cargo.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Microtubule assembly and pole coalescence: early steps in Caenorhabditis elegans oocyte meiosis I spindle assembly
Chien-Hui Chuang, Aleesa J. Schlientz, Jie Yang, Bruce Bowerman
    Biology Open 2020 9: bio052308 doi: 10.1242/bio.052308 Published 25 June 2020

Summary: This paper documents requirements for several regulators of microtubule assembly and stability during the early steps of acentrosomal meiotic spindle assembly in Caenorhabditis elegans oocytes.

  • METHODS & TECHNIQUES
GFP-Forked, a genetic reporter for studying Drosophila oocyte polarity
Raju Baskar, Anna Bakrhat, Uri Abdu
    Biology Open 2019 8: bio039552 doi: 10.1242/bio.039552 Published 17 January 2019

Summary: The novel asymmetric Forked network could be used as a genetic reporter for visualizing and studying oocyte polarity.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Centrioles without microtubules: a new morphological type of centriole
Rustem Uzbekov, Anastasiia Garanina, Christophe Bressac
    Biology Open 2018 7: bio036012 doi: 10.1242/bio.036012 Published 15 August 2018

Summary: Centrioles without microtubules in larvae cells of parasitoid wasps duplicate and form primary cilia without microtubules, in nymph and imago cells centrioles acquire a ‘normal’ structure with nine microtubules triplets.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Phosphatase-regulated recruitment of the spindle- and kinetochore-associated (Ska) complex to kinetochores
    Sushama Sivakumar, Gary J. Gorbsky
    Biology Open 2017 6: 1672-1679; doi: 10.1242/bio.026930

Summary: Feedback between protein phosphatases and the spindle- and kinetochore-associated (Ska) complex regulates chromosome movement and the metaphase-to-anaphase cell cycle transition. This article has an associated First Person interview with the first author of the paper as part of the supplementary information.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Endogenous AJAP1 associates with the cytoskeleton and attenuates angiogenesis in endothelial cells
Katharina Hötte, Isabell Smyrek, Anna Starzinski-Powitz, Ernst H. K. Stelzer
    Biology Open 2017 6: 723-731; doi: 10.1242/bio.022335

Summary: Depletion of AJAP1 in endothelial cells can increase angiogenic-like sprouting and cell migration. In addition, AJAP1 associates with microtubules in these cells.

  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
The Rho GTPase Cdc42 regulates hair cell planar polarity and cellular patterning in the developing cochlea
Anna Kirjavainen, Maarja Laos, Tommi Anttonen, Ulla Pirvola
    Biology Open 2015 4: 516-526; doi: 10.1242/bio.20149753
  • RESEARCH ARTICLE

Sarah Young, Sébastien Besson, Julie P. I. Welburn
    Biology Open 2014 3: 1217-1223; doi: 10.1242/bio.201410363
  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
Low dose tubulin-binding drugs rescue peroxisome trafficking deficit in patient-derived stem cells in Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia
Yongjun Fan, Gautam Wali, Ratneswary Sutharsan, Bernadette Bellette, Denis I. Crane, Carolyn M. Sue, Alan Mackay-Sim
    Biology Open 2014 3: 494-502; doi: 10.1242/bio.20147641
  • RESEARCH ARTICLE
TCTEX1D4, a novel protein phosphatase 1 interactor: connecting the phosphatase to the microtubule network
Luís Korrodi-Gregório, Sandra I. Vieira, Sara L. C. Esteves, Joana V. Silva, Maria João Freitas, Ann-Kristin Brauns, Georg Luers, Joana Abrantes, Pedro J. Esteves, Odete A. B. da Cruz e Silva, Margarida Fardilha, Edgar F. da Cruz e Silva
    Biology Open 2013 2: 453-465; doi: 10.1242/bio.20131065
